St. Patrick's Day One Day Later

Ah. Poor Franklin. Here he sits,

St. Paddy's day gear in place

but look! He's lost a limb!
Did this happen in a drunken brawl? Was it lost to a bet? Did he trip and fall?

Oh Franklin.

Catching up with Franklin

We had a 52 day bus strike so I didn't get to see Franklin regularly. I did manage to catch up with him though and while carpooling I caught this image at the end of January.
It's a plea for carpoolers to say hello. I took it out a car window while driving by in the carpool I was in. (Thanks Val for slowing down.)

This was Franklin today.

Not sure if bunny ears or a St. Patty's day get-up will be next. Time will tell.

January Franklin

Here's Franklin in his Christmas-y outfit. We've had a bus strike so this image was taken from a car window. I can't reach Franklin on foot...
So, not the best image, but at least I got a record of what Franklin's been wearing since mid-December. I predict it's some Valentine's Day get-up next.

End of Term - One More to Go

Franklin - As seen on the last day of my fall 2008 term.

I've never had a name for this guy and it just came to me, Franklin. So here's to Franklin in all his glory, braving the wint'ry weather on the last day of class for me in the year 2008.

As hard as this weather seems, my term was harder. I worked very hard and produced many things. I think I did good.

And besides school projects I submitted to a few "call for artists" for charity fundraisers and I managed to get my AMACO friendly plastic challenge off in time, did two craft shows and submitted work to the school's Christmas show and sale as well as make an edition of 6 etchings for the Year of the Ox exhibition at Proof Gallery in Toronto. I also joined the Nanowrimo "write a novel in a month" challenge (this means write 50,000 words) and while I had to stop by the end of the first week at 5,000 words, with a real story just beginning, my 3 other cohorts completed their word counts. Here's to Karen and Tim and Mike! Salut! I was drowning in 3 seas of work: school, ceramic studio duties and my business. Just barely stayed afloat.

At the end of all this I am burnt out.

And now, with all this time on my hands, I can't go nowheres anyway. Our local bus system is at a full stop. They are striking and without a car and without $ I'm not going anywhere. So that's how that is. I hope they return to work soon but don't expect it to happen until after the holidays. Ah well. Time to relax anyway.

October Bones

October brings Canadian Thanksgiving! Turkey Day!

This took some doing to set the bird up just right.

As an artist who has had to draw the human skeleton more than once, I notice the disconnection of this arm bone from the elbow, yet it seems there is an armbone there holding the frying pan.. maybe the extra armbone belongs to the guest? Guess they've stepped out for a minute. Or maybe more fingerbones were needed to manage that frying pan. Whatever the reason, the image still works.

August and September Bones

So here it is, the 1st of September. The ancient Celts held this to be New Year's Day and it always feels that way to me, whether you are getting ready for another year of school, as I am, or just shifting gears from summer to fall.

I have lots to post and I'll start with this guy. This is August's skeletal offering
Fun and sun and summer outdoor activity...

And here we are, it's September

Back to it. The long shadow is very appropriate.
